Ken Singer, a former businessman who teaches entrepreneurship and technological innovation at the University of Berkeley, California, explains in this conversation that, unlike science subjects, his classes are a time to explore theartof creating something new, and that they involve questioning the traditional roles of students and teachers.

Participating in the Cityxperiment program in Porto in 2025, a program in which international students collaborate with the city to solve challenges raised by local organizations, Ken Singer praises the organization and resilience of Portuguese society and advocates that the local identity of cities like Porto be preserved in the face of increasing globalization.

Ken Singer is Chief Learning Officer and Managing Director of the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET) at UC Berkeley, as well as Chair of the European Innovation Academy Council and Visiting Professor at the Tech Leaders Fellowship at Plaksha University.

With a background in History of Science and Technology from UC Berkeley, he is a serial entrepreneur and expert in technology product management. He has founded five mobility companies and leads courses that engage students in developing real mobile applications and business plans, and he also created a nonprofit organization promoting international competitions for university entrepreneurs.
